PILATES Reaches the muscles other exercises won't reach!

The Pilates method was devised by Joseph Pilates in the mid 1920’s. Joseph believed that the modern lifestyle, bad posture and inefficient breathing lay at the roots of poor health. He ultimately devised a series of exercises which take a holistic approach to fitness and well-being.
The Pilates technique consists of slow controlled movements designed to improve posture, strengthen and lengthen muscles without adding bulk. This combined art of stretching whilst strengthening will significantly improve muscle flexibility and range of movement of the joints. The emphasis on breathing will leave you feeling revitalized rather than exhausted.
Regular practice of Pilates will help you learn to recognise your strengths and weaknesses and work towards rebalancing your body. The moves themselves function differently from many other forms of exercise. Here, the focus is on the central 'core', using the deep abdominal muscles to control the movements, whereas many other forms of exercise focus purely on developing the limbs themselves. You will be taught to focus the mind as you exercise the body; gradually noticing a stronger, more toned torso, flattened abdominals, improved posture and coordination.
Pilates is suitable for everyone regardless of age or fitness level, it is widely used as part of a rehab program for those recovering from back, neck or shoulder injuries.
